Erlanger Bergkirchweih (Festival on the hill)

In Erlangen the Bergkirchweih is fondly called ‘Berch’ (hill) or simply the ‘fifth season’. Erlanger Bergkirchweih traditionally starts on the Thursday preceding Pentecost with the tapping of the barrel in front of Henninger Keller (beer cellar) and ends twelve days later with the traditional ‘burial of the barrel’ at Erichkeller. Our Bergkirchweih-Festbier (festival beer) can be enjoyed from stoneware mugs at a total of six cellars.

Erich Keller

The oldest cellar of the city has already existed for more than 300 years and is the real centre of the ‘Erlanger Berch’! For a long time, Erichbrauerei, the brewery that gave the cellar its name, was the biggest brewery of Erlangen. Every year on the last day of the Kirchweih, the festival, embodied by a beer barrel, is symbolically laid to rest to the tune of ‘Lili Marleen’.Innkeeper at the cellar: LSH GbRReservations at

Hofbräu Keller

Originally the cellar belonged to a brewery founded by the brewer and butcher Georg Ernst Vierzigmann in 1729. Niklas Keller

The name of the cellar goes back to the Brewery Carl Niclas, one of the historical breweries of the old town that already brewed beer at 103 Hauptstrasse (main road) at the end of the 17th century. This cellar, located immediately to the left of the junction, is one of the party hotspots of Erlanger Bergkirchweih.Innkeeper at the cellar: Michael G.

Hübner's Keller

The brewery associated with the Hübners-Keller was originally located at 110 Hauptstrasse (main road). The brewery’s nucleus was the inn ‘Zum goldenen Schwanen’. Henninger Keller

With a length of 861 metres, the longest cellar of the hill basically traverses the hill called Burgberg. Heidi's Treff - Chapeau Claque
